Eddie Borgo Spring/Summer 2011 Collection

Shot for her inimitable style by street photographers from Tommy Ton and The Sartorialist to Citizen Couture, Giovanna Battaglia has become something of a poster girl for the fashion-obsessed.  But now she’s really a poster girl—for Eddie Borgo.

“Giovanna was very much in my head when I was designing the spring collection,” says Borgo, a 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runner-up who met the freelance stylist at an appointment two years ago. “She loves jewelry and is not afraid to pile it on. She also, in her own way, is an example of high-end meets street.”

For the last four seasons, in lieu of a lookbook, Borgo has sent editors, buyers, and friends a poster of his favorite cool girl (past Borgo beauties include Lauren Santo Domingo, Kate Lanphear,  and Vanessa Traina) modeling his necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. The pieces worn by Battaglia, available now on Net-a-Porter, were inspired by fetish iconography: padlocks, corsets, bondage cuffs. Which sounds scary if left in another designer’s hands. But Borgo manages to make these references feel altogether ladylike.

“Each piece is so amazingly done,” says Battaglia. “You don’t even think about the dark side of it.”
